From Dowry Survivor to Supreme Court Lawyer: The Inspiring Journey of Priyadharshni Rahul

In this exclusive interview with ANI, Advocate Priyadharshni Rahul shares her deeply moving journey of resilience and justice. Her story began at the age of 24 when her wedding was called off due to unreasonable dowry demands. Instead of succumbing to societal pressure or silence, she chose to fight back, a decision that eventually transformed her life and career.

Priyadharshni recalls how the experience shook her self-esteem but ignited a fire to ensure no other woman would have to face such humiliation. This personal struggle led her to study law, turning a 14-year-long legal battle into a professional calling. She eventually reached the Supreme Court, where her case was settled in her favour. In a remarkable act of grace, she donated her entire compensation of ₹11 lakh to the Supreme Court Advocates Welfare Fund, choosing to support needy litigants rather than keep the money for herself.

Today, she practices as a successful lawyer in the Supreme Court of India and serves as the Chairperson of the Sansad Ratna Awards Committee. Beyond her legal practice, she founded Next Gen Political Leaders (NGPL) to mentor and train young aspirants entering politics. Her journey is a testament to the fact that one’s identity is defined not by the hardships they survive, but by the strength they show in the aftermath. This interview serves as a powerful message to women across India: self-respect is non-negotiable, and the law is a potent tool for reclaiming one’s dignity.
